Memories in the making

Stay at Castle Lodge

When you escape to Castle Lodge, you get so much more than a place to rest your head. Our self-catering suites are worlds unto themselves. Each is a private palace, individually designed to highlight and enhance the unique historical treasures of our Grade II* Tudor mansion. Each tells a story inspired by the lives and luminaries of Ludlow's past. Each is sumptuously spacious, lavishly furnished and made to leave lasting memories. These are not hotel rooms – they're works of art.

Take your pick from seven self-catering apartments. All sport at least two living spaces, plus fully fitted kitchenettes (dishwasher included), decadently comfortable beds and more than a few nice surprises.

This is the start of something special. Welcome.

The Beckeye Suite

Attic apartment • Intricate patterns and period features • [Room for two]

Set on our top floor, the Beckeye Suite is a private hideaway that offers plenty of room to relax and stretch out. It features lots of cosy corners, a lavish four-poster bed and a delightfully rustic decorative theme inspired by one of the Lodge's earliest inhabitants.

The Captain's Suite

Attic apartment • Nautical décor with a castle view • [Room for two]

The Captain's Suite pays tribute to a naval captain who lived at the Lodge in the 18th century. The apartment is furnished as a love letter to maritime life, complete with mighty wooden beams, sailors' relics and a very special shell grotto.

The Victorian Suite

Two-floor apartment • Elegant, understated glamour • [Room for two]

While all our apartments spotlight period details, the Victorian Suite is a particularly evocative time capsule. This is 19th-century elegance at its most refined, right down to the distinctive winding staircase. The plush palm wallpaper, meanwhile, nods to two talented botanists who lived here in the 1800s.

The Henry VIII Suite

Two-bedroom apartment • Regal and spacious • Room for four

Henry VIII was a born entertainer, perhaps as famous in his day for his lavish banquets as his marital vicissitudes. Fittingly, the suite that bears his name is tailor-made for wining, dining and dancing. It's a decadently spacious place, complete with two bedrooms, a large fireplace and lavish gold-tinted fittings.

The Mary Tudor Suite

Second-floor apartment • Homely and sumptuous • Room for two

The Mary Tudor Suite promises a rare blend of homely comforts and historical splendour. For one guest, it's a slice of Tudor luxury blessed by breathtaking views of Ludlow Castle. With two, it becomes a romantic bolthole buoyed by cosy furnishings and characterful period features. Tucked in the heart of town, it offers the perfect excuse to discover Ludlow's charms and taste the cream of the English countryside.

The Catherine of Aragon Suite

First-floor apartment • A Spanish palace in miniature • Room for two

If the legend is true, Catherine of Aragon might be the Lodge's most famous former resident. Her suite, we think you'll agree, does justice to her legacy. Perched on the first floor overlooking Ludlow's market square, it's a splash of Andalusian sunshine set in the heart of the 'loveliest town in England'. Spend the day exploring. Return to your very own Spanish palace. Perfect.

The Prince Arthur Suite

First-floor apartment • Stately and spacious • Room for two

Prince Arthur was never quite king – but step into his suite and you'd be forgiven for thinking you must have missed your own coronation. Plush, spacious and brimming with period splendour, it puts Ludlow's charms at your fingertips and its famous market square at your feet. Perfect, we think, for two travellers with impeccably indulgent tastes.
